Art and the beach have always been a part of my life. I grew up spending my summers on Cape Cod and continue to vacation there with my husband and children. There’s no place like the Cape! Walking barefoot along the soft golden sand, breathing the refreshing salt air, and listening to the soothing meditative sounds of the ocean waves, takes me to another place - a peaceful calm state of mind. It is the source of inspiration for my art. Like being at the beach, when I create my art, I also get lost in another place. I am able to be fully present, in the moment and can tune everything out. Art and the beach - my happy places!
I began my art career teaching art at an elementary school. I love watching young artists create their own masterpieces. They are filled with excitement and enthusiasm that fuels my own creativity. One of my first teaching lessons was based on the art of Eric Carle. I was in awe of the painted papers they created for the project - full of vibrant color. Years later, as I was pursuing my Masters Degree, I enrolled in a collage class. One of my projects was a large scallop shell on canvas made from leftover scraps of my students’ painted papers along with some of my own. It was this project that led me to create my beach themed collages. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed creating them.
